about

Who We Are

Corby Nightlight is a registered charity set up to relieve and prevent poverty among rough sleepers and other homeless adults in Corby and surrounding areas. Each year we aim to provide a night shelter and support services, working together with other agencies to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping by treating addiction and mental health issues and enabling people to gain independent living skills and move on to stable accommodation. We also promote social inclusion and raise awareness of homelessness in the area.

The charity is governed by a board of trustees:

Diane Boyd - Chairperson
Vicky Funnell - Secretary
Anne Scales - Treasurer
Rob Hawkins - Trustee

Registered Charity No 1172857

Volunteering

Interested in Helping?

Would you like to help us end the need for people to sleep rough? Our Winter Night Provision aims to support rough sleepers with temporary overnight accommodation where possible & support those experiencing food poverty with a hot meal, food hampers and signposting to other services such as the food bank. We ask volunteers to be able to commit to a minimum of one shift (usually four hours) per fortnight, however if you are able to commit to a weekly shift, that’s even better – however we do understand that people have their own commitments. Our charity and therefore the provision we provide is organised and operated solely by volunteers, so any time you can spare will be greatly appreciated.

Our volunteers are essential to us providing this vital service in Corby. We're looking for ordinary people who are:

Kind
Committed
Reliable
Patient
Respectful
Friendly
Non-judgemental

Confident
Resilient
Honest
Trustworthy
Discrete
Supportive
Compassionate

We aim to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. We want to challenge all forms of oppression including those based on race, ethnicity, nationality, creed, gender, sex, class, sexuality, gender reassignment, learning ability, physical impairment, mental illness, HIV status, age, occupation, income, wealth and unrelated criminal conviction.

We are always looking for volunteers to join our team and work with our guests - serving food, offering hope & encouragement, playing board games, supporting leisure activities and much more.

We'd also love to hear from you if you'd like to visit the centre to offer a service - we would welcome regular visits from hairdressers, barbers, counsellors, therapists etc. so if you can help, please get in touch!

Volunteering provides many opportunities to learn new skills, meet new people, grow in confidence, and most importantly make a difference to people trying to rebuild their lives.

We endeavour to pay reasonable travel expenses, if required. This can be discussed during your application process.

Our recruitment process:

Application

Email us a note and we’ll send you an application form.

Training

We hold regular training sessions, which are held at various venues. Please see our events section for upcoming dates.

Checks

If you would like to proceed with your application, we'll take up your references and request a DBS check (Please note - a previous misdemeanour won't necessarily mean that you can't volunteer with us, so please contact us if you wish to discuss this further).

Trial

Once all this is successfully completed we'll invite you to a training session and to do a 'no obligation' trial shift.

We hold training events regularly, so you are never far from being able to join us. If you'd like to know more or you have any specific questions please drop us an email at info@corbynightlight.org.uk

Training Dates:

We’ll be organising a number of training days in the coming months. We’ll keep you posted on the dates as soon as they are finalised.

Other ways to help:

If you'd like to support us but don't feel able to work in the centre we're also looking for people to become a fundraiser or you could collect tinned food or toiletries for our guests to use at the shelter. Please contact us for further information.
