Changing homelessness in Corby

Learn More

During the COVID-19 pandemic we have been forced to amend our services and provisions.

Who We Are

Corby Nightlight is a registered charity established to relieve poverty among rough sleepers and homeless adults in Corby and the surrounding area.
We are proud to have been instrumental in drawing attention to the need for a night shelter over the past three years and very happy that this provision is now being met.
Nightlight’s attention this year will therefore be on supporting and augmenting this provision; working with the council and other services to co-ordinate all our efforts to maximum effect.
We continue to work to reduce homelessness and to address addiction and mental health issues to enable people to regain independent living skills.

The charity is governed by a board of trustees:

Diane Boyd - Chairperson
Vicky Funnell - Secretary
Anne Scales - Treasurer
Rob Hawkins - Trustee

Registered Charity No 1172857

Interested in Helping?

Would you like to help us to support those experiencing homelessness or food poverty?

We provide hot food and drink, food parcels and essentials to those in difficulty, without regard to class colour or creed. We also provide signposting to other services and agencies that can help.

Our primary outreach provision for the past year has been our mobile catering facility, situated in the town centre and we continue to look for innovative ways we can provide support and assistance wherever needed.

Our charity is organised and operated solely by unpaid volunteers, so any time you could offer us would be greatly appreciated. We’ll provide the support and training to enable you to really make a difference.

Our volunteers are essential to our ability to provide this vital service in Corby.
We are looking for ordinary people that are:

We aim to provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Our guests and volunteers enjoy mutual respect, free from judgement or discrimination on the grounds of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, learning or physical difficulties, mental health, age, occupation or income.

Volunteering provides many opportunities to learn new skills, meet new people, grow in confidence or exercise existing talents. Most importantly, it offers an opportunity to give direct and meaningful assistance to people that are trying to cope with difficult issues and re-build their lives.

Our recruitment process:

News & Events:

17th July 2021

The Daylight Café Opens!
Our ‘Daylight Café’ is now open every Saturday from 3.30pm to 6.30pm at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Occupation Road.

It’s a place that welcomes anyone within the homeless community, those at risk of homelessness or simply struggling with day to day financial pressures. It’s a space to gather and socialise in, to enjoy a hot drink and a snack, play a board game, read the paper, or find a helping hand. Run by our volunteers, we hope it will be somewhere that those feeling the strain can take a little time out and meet some friendly faces.

The meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday 16th February.
If you would like to attend please contact: for the meeting details and an invitation link.

December 2020
The run-up to Christmas this year was a strange one for everyone, but thankfully the majority of our town’s homeless and rough sleepers were accommodated by the night shelter run by ENCS or, as a result of COVID measures, in government-funded temporary accommodation. That said, Christmas is a time when inequality is perhaps most keenly felt, so it was great to be able to reach out to individuals and families that needed a bit of a helping hand during this time. Our thanks go to Martin, Corby’s Rough Sleeper Outreach Worker for his help with co-ordination and distribution.

People making a difference
We’d just like to put a shout-out for everyone who gives us individual donations, whether directly, though the Local Giving website, or via payroll charitable giving. Together you are the lifeblood of the charity and making a real difference. Thank you all so much!

17th May

Axil and Asda
A huge thank you to Axil Integrated Services who donated Asda vouchers to help us with our ongoing food provision. Axil are a national company with their headquarters here in Corby.
The ability to distribute vouchers has been vital during the Covid pandemic. It has allowed us to continue a food and essential items provision to those most vulnerable, even though we have been unable to operate our mobile catering facility because of social distancing.
Axil’s generosity also prompted Asda’s store manager Nick Wood to donate a monthly food hamper to the charity’s volunteers, which was a lovely gesture.

28th April

Jackson's Group
It’s fantastic to be Jackson Bakery’s Charity of the Year. They’ve kept us in sandwich bread throughout the winter and we’ve just received a very generous donation from the group’s charitable trust. We’re really looking forward to sharing the exciting ideas, activities and interactions we have for 2020/21.

2nd April

Corby Rotary Phoenix
Thanks to Corby Rotary Club for hosting us to talk about homelessness in Corby. It was great to share our presentation with you and enjoy a well-informed discussion afterwards. A big thank you also for your donation, which we will put to good work!

27th March

We’ve had to make some very difficult decisions with the COVID situation rapidly becoming a national health crisis. Guided by local government advice, and our own concerns we’ve had to close the catering facility on Everest Lane. The national government announced today however, funding to house rough-sleepers during the pandemic, which is great news. We’ll therefore be re-directing our efforts to work alongside the Corby Homeless Project, CBC and other services to deliver food and essentials to those that are most in need. We’ll be directing our activity and resources wherever we can most make a difference during this crisis. Please all take care and stay safe.
